Like every spice has a story, Samarasa's began centuries ago, during the time of the Vijayanagara Empire and the reign of the Nayaks of Vellore.

Priya's ancestors served closely with the kingdom, where cooking was rooted in nourishment, balance, and tradition. The recipes prepared in the royal kitchens were handcrafted using nature's finest ingredients, patiently roasted, carefully ground, and perfected with generations of wisdom.

These treasured palace recipes were lovingly passed through the family.

Traditional blends like Sambar Podi, Rasam Powder, Kulambu Podi, Bisibele Bath Mix, Vangi Bath Mix, Idly Podi, and the family's nourishing Sathu Maavu continued to be prepared exactly as they had been for generations.

Priya's family lived together in a large joint household of nearly 100 members. Every morning began with a warm bowl of Sathu Maavu Kanji, made using more than 30 carefully selected millets, grains, pulses, nuts, and natural jaggery. It was a daily ritual that nourished generations of children, strengthened families, and reflected the belief that food is the first step to good health.

As time changed, the family gradually grew into smaller nuclear families, but Priya remained closely connected with her grandparents.

Growing up beside her grandmother, Priya spent countless hours learning recipes that had been passed down through generations.

She learned how every spice should be roasted, how every ingredient should be measured by instinct, and how every blend carried generations of knowledge. Together, her grandmother and mother passed on not just recipes, but the values of patience, honesty, purity, and care.

In 1983, Priya's Father, Saravanan took the family's treasured recipes beyond their home. He began preparing and supplying authentic spice blends to local communities, carrying a vision that one day these traditional flavours would reach kitchens across the globe through their Children and Grandchildren. 

That vision became SAMARASA in 2025

Today, every Samarasa product continues to be crafted using the same treasured recipes that have been preserved since the time of the Vijayanagara Empire.
